Pastor and Principal ResourcesPastor and Principal Resources

Perhaps the most difficult responsibility parents have today is educating their children in the role of human sexuality. The Church (and the Catholic Schools) have a role to fill in assisting parents in this task. Catholic parents turn to the Church for a total vision of the human person to understand the purpose for which we were made, to know how to live the moral law in our lives and how to teach the children.

The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality helps Pastors and Principles to connect Mothers and Fathers to the pure teaching of the Church on a practical level. Because parents benefit by the support and friendship of one another, gathering the parents to view a DVD together (as described in the brief History) has been very successful.

In one diocese the parents are given the teaching materials in the Fall and told that a Priest or another qualified person will speak to the children in the spring using the same materials. The presentation to the children respects the parents as primary teachers, gives the moral instruction of the Church and refrains from any intimate discussion.

In another diocese the school requires attendance of two of the four DVDs presentations. Sacramental programs and PTA evenings are two possible venues.

Parents have also gathered in homes to view and discuss the DVDs or to read a portion of the Truth and Meaning.

"...and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us." Romans 5:5

"It is more and more clear that, today, parents are faced with situations where they have to defend the family, marriage, purity before marriage- things we think that others would understand and value. What is being taught in schools is absolutely contrary to what we believe.

It is crucial, even for well-educated parents, to study and to be prepared to teach their own children about sexuality." Sally Wallace, founder of the Catholic Parents Program
